When was the last time that you laughed when someone was murdered?  Do you giggle when a
teenager is
raped?  It's pretty damn funny when an American soldier dies in  Iraq.  Isn't it?

The a
bsurdly insensitive comments above resemble the same sick thinking that produced the new
FX show 'Starved.'  This show has taken a serious illness and turned it into a "shamefully funny
comedy", to say it in their own words.  It is a complete mockery of t
hose who are suffering from
eating disorders
.  At the very least, the series is unrealistic, inaccurate, and obnoxious.  People who
truly have eating disorders don't run through the halls yelling "I'm bulimic!" and shoving food down
their throats.  This show absolutely disgusts me.
There is nothing humorous about starvation,
purging, binging, or compulsive exercising.
Anorectics, Bulimics, and Over-eaters are already
embarrassed enough about their behaviors, and now we have to mock them on national television?
Eating Disorders aren't a fad.  They are a real problem and cause serious complications, including
death.  Do you think that anyone wants to starve?  Do you think that anyone wants to spend hours
over a toilet or digging food out of a trash can?  No.  Not even the people who claim to
"love" their
eating disorders.  These victims are trapped in their habits, not because of vanity, but because
t
hey've become slaves to the emotional release produced by their addictions. The majority of eating
disorder
s are originally triggered by mental, physical, or sexual abuse.  These addictions lead to
heart problems, bone diseases, tooth decay, hair loss, kidney failure, and infinite other ailments.

Many s
ufferers' battles end in death.  Please, reach out and help these victims.  Don't let 'Starved'
continue to laugh in their faces.
